Outdoor Education in Action
With over 675 hours of experience leading outdoor educational programs, Susan brings nature to life through immersive, interactive learning. One of her favorite places to teach is on the Continental Avenue Pedestrian Bridge in Dallas, where she combines science, movement, and fun for young explorers.
A Favorite Moment: The Egret Dance
Imagine a child learning how to perform the "Egret Dance," a fun movement that mimics how real egrets stir shallow water with their feet to catch prey. After the dance, Susan introduces students to wetland invertebrates, either from her portable pond or under her video microscope.
She uses the moment to teach essential science concepts, like:
